Nicole Kirkland is a professional dancer, choreographer, and instructor in LA. Originally from the Bay Area, she received her training in studios, dance companies, and conventions. She began dancing at the age of 2, teaching at the age of 16, and at the age of 20, she was already a working choreographer in the industry.
Nicole’s choreography talent is apparent in both industry and community dance. On the industry side, Nicole has choreographed for Prince, Gwen Stefani, Nicole Scherzinger, Iggy Azalea, Kehlani, Bryson Tiller, Ceelo Green, Hyolyn, RL Grime/Daya, Teyana Taylor, K. Michelle, Paloma Ford, Tayla Parx, Liv Warfield, E40, 3rdEyeGirl, Iakopo, Judith Hill & many more. She was also runner-up on Nigel Lythgoe’s “Every Single Step” Season 2 choreography competition show. On the community side, Nicole has choreographed for hip hop companies The Lab featured on NBC’s World of Dance, immaBEAST, GRV and Gravy Babies.
Nicole’s diverse style of choreography stems from her extensive training background. She can teach anything from jazz funk and heels, to urban and pop styled hip hop. Nicole focuses on character. She stresses the importance of performance and creating a story, no matter the style of movement. She teaches her students to not just “act” like a character they are portraying, but to actually “be” the character. Nicole believes in teaching her students something new every time they take her class so they leave feeling inspired.
